EU Import Requirements for Spain

- Microchip: An ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit microchip must be implanted before any rabies vaccination is administered.
- Rabies Vaccination: Must be administered at least 21 days before travel, and the microchip must be scanned beforehand.
- EU Health Certificate: Also known as an Annex IV certificate, this must be completed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian and endorsed by the USDA within 10 days of arrival in the EU.
Commercial vs. Non-Commercial Travel
The EU distinguishes between “commercial” and “non-commercial” pet movement:
- Non-Commercial: The owner travels within 5 days of the pet. A maximum of 5 pets are allowed.
